The Xasin are a race of extra planar beings that can partially extend themselves into the Prime Material Plane from their own home dimension, and appear as a mass of disjointed tentacles and vague shapes with sensory organs. When approached initially, Xasin appear talkative and even friendly, and will tell any who have never encountered them that they are interdimensional merchants looking for customers to sample their wares. They are slightly telepathic and highly observant and as such can tell anyone what they might be interested in; e.g., they might tell a Thief that they have for sale an exquisite mechanism for disarming traps and opening locks, or try to "sell" a Magic-User a tome of heretofore unheard-of spells.

The reality is much more terrible. The Xasin are slavers, and given the opportunity will drag the unwary away to their own home plane and enslave the victims - putting those too weak or rebellious to death and using them as food!

Once the Xasin have won their potential victims' trust, they will spring in to action and make as many attacks as they need to with a seemingly endless supply of tentacles to drag victims towards their "center" (actually the point from which they extend into the Prime Material Plane). A successful grab-and-drag attack requires a hit roll of 19 or 20. For purposes of resisting, each tentacle is AC 3 (due to it's otherworldly toughness) and has 10 hit points. When ten or more hits are inflicted the tentacle will cease attack and withdraw into the nether-realm from whence it came. If the Xasin's target it dragged into the other world, they will immediately see the rest of the Xasin's form - a horrible, bloated kraken-like creature that seems to be comprised of unending yards of tentacles. The world itself is a horrible place of dim red skies and broken, rocky terrain. The Xasin will beat the new arrival into submission (subdual attacks). Once subdued, the Xasin strips off and destroys any weapons or armor and immediately puts the slave to work mining alien metals from the unforgiving soil.

It is rumored that the Xasin have at times allied themselves with the dreaded Ithillid.
