The Yelf is a species of domestic feline found almost exclusively in the company of elves. Like the Cooshee (q.v.), it seems to favor their company over any other creatures. Although it generally follows it's "master's" tastes in the company kept, Yelfs dislike all Orcish breeds and are indifferent to Dwarves. They particularly like Halflings in general because of the Halfling's tendency to feed the Yelf scraps.
The Yelf has some small magical ability; it's senses are heightened somewhat and when accompanying a party with an Elven character, that party adds +1 to it's die roll for determining Surprise.
Elven magic-users enjoy the company of the Yelf. If a Find Familiar spell is cast by an
Elven character and the die roll indicates a Cat, there is a 10% chance the Yelf will answer the summons.
The Yelf's appearance is that of a long-haired cat, tending towards dark colors
(grays and blacks) in it's fur, with a short but not pug face. In the wild they prefer forests and thickets to other areas.
